CAN YOU HELP CRICKET??? This is cricket at 2 weeks old.  ***UPDATE*** CRICKET HAD HER SURGERY TODAY. THE VET SAID ALL WENT 100% ACCORDING TO PLAN. SHE WILL REMAIN AT THE HOSPITAL TILL TOMORROW 12/8. SHE WILL THEN COME BACK TO THE RESCUE TO START HER RECOVERY. WE HAVE ONLY RAISED $300 TOWARDS HER BILL. WE STILL NEED TO RAISE AN ADDITIONAL $1300 FOR WHAT IS OWED NOW. You may track Crickets progress on her page. The link is on the left side of this page. Cricket came to our rescue April 1st, 2005 She was 2 weeks old and fighting for her life. Struggling with pneumonia and a septic knee. It was touch and go for over a month and at times we didn't think she would survive. But as time went on she did survive. She was a fighter and still is. This girl has grown into a beautiful 18 month old fillie. But again she is in jeopardy. Within the past month she has had difficulty walking on the leg that had the septic knee. After consulting with 2 veterinarians they have agreed that her only chance is surgery for the tendon in that leg. So far her bill is over $300 and will continue to rise. Surgery alone will run between $1200 and $1500 and that is not counting any after care. With your help she can survive. A donation in any amount will help us reach our goal. She will remain stalled and brace on until surgery. Her vet believes if all goes well with her surgery she will be rideable for light trail riding. This was music to our ears. Can you help give the gift of life? This girl is worth it. She has a wonderful personality and never gives up. How could we? Hi, My Name is Cricket  My surgery has been complete and I am now rehabilitating at Whimsical Farm. Cricket has done wonderful with surgery. Though she is far from out of the woods. Rehab is going okay but we had hoped she would improve at a faster rate. She has had a bolt put in her knee that will remain until her foot turns forward at which time the bolt will need to be removed. She has acted like the surgery has never happened. It has not phased her one bit. Other than the fact she hates being stalled. She started on the 22nd getting 1/2 hour periods a day in a small paddock. She was thrilled. This girl has THE BEST personality. Although she has been put through the mill since birth she is loving and abosloutely a joy to all who meet her. We will do our best to keep this page up to date on a weekly basis. Thanks to all of you who have donated toward her care. Without the donations we would not be able to continue to help save her life. Update 1/11/07: Cricket went back for her check up with the vet today. She is progressing nicely. The farrier will be coming out to put a wedge on her foot. So far so good. All is going well. She hates being stalled but soon she will be able to run the fields to hearts content. Thanks to those of you who have donated for her care. This girl is going to make it and is well worth ALL OF OUR EFFORTS. Update 1/25/07: Cricket is progressing nicely. Things are going slow but they are going in the right direction. Nothing seems to phase her, other than she hates being stalled. The vet is still monitoring her progress. We are fitting her with a special boot to help turn her foot forward. The tendon seems to be healing well but the foot is still turned and is slowly coming around. She loves her 1/2 hour time out in the paddock and shows off while there. Hope to have new pics in a few days. Update 3/15/07: Cricket is still doing wonderful. She seems to get better every day. The farrier has been working diligently to help her foot turn forward. The vet is very optimistic and still believes that she will recover completely. She is slowly getting more and more time outdoors which she loves. Especially on the nice days. She will be going back to the vet for another check up in another week. We will update with her findings shortly after. Thanks to those who have donated to the Cricket fund. The bills have contiuously been stacking up. But this girl is well worth the effort. UPDATE 4/12/07 Cricket went back for her next check up on 4/11/07. Unfortunately the news was not what we wanted to hear. Cricket will never be rideable. The goal now is to get her to a point that is comfortable for her to live her life out as a pet. This girl has been a true fighter. She does not the leg impair her. She still loves to run , and play in the field. And is a joy to behold. To think we almost lost her several times. She is just so pleasant to be around and brings a smile to eveyone who meets her. We are now looking for sponsors for Cricket. This would mean a monthly donation in any amount to help for her care while she remains at the rescue. Our hopes are to find her a home where she can just live out the rest of her life as a pasture pal to another horse. She loves being with people and other horses. Her surgery did not do what we had hoped it would. Her leg is still popping at the ankle. She does run, buck and kick in the field and you hardly notice it. But once she is back to a walk it is very noticeable. We have switched gears and are now working with a farrier and physical exercise in hopes we can strengthen the tendon. The cost of Hay has gone up due to the lack of rain in our area and therefore is getting costly to care for the horses here with us. Please help us help them.
